Diablo Cycling's Endurance Extraordinaires Jamie Zarda and Steve Scherck took on the challenging, enhanced roads, paths and trails, in one of the most isolated parts of the United States. There was moose and beaver.

Since I wasn't there, I granted Jamie access to this prestigious weblog. In her words:

"You may ask what is the Crusher? It is a long endurance enhanced gravel (mountain bike) adventure. It’s not really a race as there is not an emphasis on podiums more the experience. Originally, I was signed up for the mass start 175 miles (which was actually 206 miles) but with my back surgery, and a pinched nerve in my neck at T1 I’ve been struggling with hand & feet numbness & nerve pain I decided to downgrade. So 100 is actually 131 miles with 10,000 ft of climbing.
What a fabulous weekend camping and riding with friends. It was awesome watching Stacee Goedtel & Travis Mcfall finish their long race - 175, I am so proud of both of you. I’m not going to lie I cried a bit watching you guys approach the finish line. Jim Tollard & Pat it was great riding with you for part of the race. Josh Jahnke your SAG help was so appreciated. And of course I would have never been brave enough to tackle this race without my friend Steve Scherck, he pulled my slow ass (behind Jamie, behind! - Jabitz) up many hills & through the singletrack & I needed him for navigation (my all time weakness) & company. Also, this race is not possible without all the amazing trail angels out there offering their time, food & help!
These trails are desolate, technical (rocks, roots, sand, huge beaver ponds & rivers), and extremely hilly. They can be physically exhausting at one point we had been doing this long singletrack climb & I said I need food I’m feeling really drained (approximately 110 miles in) and we pop out of the trail at the top of the hill and this guy was making gourmet burgers in the middle of the woods even with coleslaw & guacamole toppings! He also had Red Bull, he knew just what to have & where to be!!! Never did I think once we wouldn’t finish, I was having a blast the whole time! Although I may have had some dramatic panting on some of the big climbs. Oh and a million fly bites on my ass and some pretty serious chaffing but other than that it was great. It only took us 19 hours, 39 min, just a short ride!

The Diablo Cycling woods loving regulars headed south to Minooka Park.
The laps consisted of twisty singletrack connected by short grassy climbs.

Colin Nieforth won the super fast Kid Comp,
Freddy and Harry Burns each earned a couple of 2nds,
​and Tyler Steckling made the podium with a nice 5th.
Although Jeff Abitz "went in blind" with these unfamiliar trails, his main limiter was the nontechnical climbs. I won't mention that he forgot his cycling bib shorts at home.

Diablo Cycling's Jeff Abitz has been dipping in and out of WORS Olympic distance (1-2 hour) mountain biker races for
over 30 years. It has been a few seasons since he raced a sub five hour mountain bike race.
"Nine Mile" has always been a familiar location. Lots of WORS and 6-24 hour racing history there.
The familiar rocky singletrack, and punchy two track is his comfort zone. 
With zero people to race in Elite 50-59, Jeff Abitz switched to Comp. 
One minute in, Jeff quickly realized he needed to up his pace, compared to his usual long event pace.
A divebomb pass into the finishing singletrack section, found him drifting through the remaining corners to a 2nd place finish. 
In case you haven't figured it out yet, Jeff (me) wrote this. 

Colin Nieforth gave Diablo Cycling its second 2nd!

Of course Tyler Steckling was there, always putting in a great race.
