Series Information & Schedule: www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/wors/ Diablo Cycling's Jeff Abitz has been dipping in and out of WORS Olympic distance (1-2 hour) mountain biker races for over 30 years. It has been a few seasons since he raced a sub five hour mountain bike race. "Nine Mile" has always been a familiar location. Lots of WORS and 6-24 hour racing history there. The familiar rocky singletrack, and punchy two track is his comfort zone. With zero people to race in Elite 50-59, Jeff Abitz switched to Comp. One minute in, Jeff quickly realized he needed to up his pace, compared to his usual long event pace. A divebomb pass into the finishing singletrack section, found him drifting through the remaining corners to a 2nd place finish. In case you haven't figured it out yet, Jeff (me) wrote this. Colin Nieforth gave Diablo Cycling its second 2nd! Of course Tyler Steckling was there, always putting in a great race. Comp Men 50-59 (5 total) Jeff Abitz – 2nd Kids Comp Boys 13-14 (3 total) Colin Nieforth – 2nd Citizen Men 12 & Under (12 total) Tyler Steckling – 8th Full Results: my.raceresult.com/405549/results Next WORS race: Colectivo Coffee Classic June 27-28 Waukesha, WI Sidebar:
Jeff Abitz wishes to thank Cranked Biked Studio for their guidance and set up, in replacing his retired 2017 mountain bike. Jeff's sentimentality was quickly forgotten as he realized the potential of the updated geometry and the efficiency of the Flight Attendant suspension. Come get you some at: www.crankedbikestudio.com/ !
Three Diablo's headed up to their "almost local" trails to partake the Refo 24. For the 2nd year George and Sarah, owners of Broken Spoke Bikes, brought this rare racing format back. Racers could chose 6,12 or 24 hour Solo, as well as various Duo and Team categories. The course consisted of 11.3 mile laps of mostly flat singletrack in the woods. 12 Hour Solo Female 1st - Jamie Zarda 12 Hour Solo Male 1st - Brian Hansen 6 Hour Make Duo 5th - Nathaniel Penn & David Wozniak Full Results: my.raceresult.com/394212/ During this time, Jeff Abitz and Adam Koenig were up in Marquette MI, coaching Marji Camp. Read about it here: 906adventureteam.com/marji-camp-2026/ Coaching duties were shared in the Group 1 (most advanced) by Jeff and Adam was paired the the Kids Group (most mental and physically challenging?) - Jabitz
