Finishing the Marji Gesick 100 has been a six year, off and on journey for Diablo Cycling's John Bessey. Three bike failure induced DNF's, getting married and 2020, all legitimately delayed his goal. In the early morning darkness, John accomplished the last requirement of the Triple Crown Endurance Trilogy / Hall of PAIN! 906adventureteam.com/mountain-bike-events/triple-crown/ Adam Koenig, aided by teammate Brian Hansen, returned to finish his 2nd 100. This year Adam brought along his oldest son, to offer him a glimpse of grit and fortitude. For Steve Scherck, it was an experiment in how far you can push yourself while riding sick. He made it well past Jackson Mike Park bag drop, where he finally succumbed to his illness.   Friday and Saturday, Jeff Abitz and Tim Patterson joined the Marji Gesick "Suffer Crew", helping with start line and finish line duties, across a a variety of events. Jeff's Saturday morning shift started at 4:30 and concluded Sunday morning about 2:00 am. Several other volunteers worked until 10:30 am!  2025 registration opens on Friday, October 13th, at 9:06 PM - Eastern Time. This race is NOT for everyone. Proceed with caution / FEAR. The Wisconsin Cyclocross Series rolled into the sandy beach of Sheboygan Quarry. Long sand sections are a rare treat in United States cyclocross. Dan Naef improved on last weeks results with a strong 4th and John Lichtenberg made the Top 3 podium. The official WICX race calendar opened at a new venue south of Milwaukee. This lovely park included rare (in a cyclocross race) section of shaded single track, offering a short respite from the mid 80 degree heat. Many fast and hard corners required perfect tire pressures and well secured tubular tires. With the season concluding with National Championships in December, the timing racing fitness and form is important. Cyclocross racing is back!...beginning with two days of (non WCA) UCI racing. Diablo Cycling, put in a solid showing, in this early season throwdown. Brian earned two, yet two! 3rd place podiums. John made the "wide angle podium" with a 4th. Dan overcame a third row start, navigating and powering past slower riders to finish 7th. Saturday, for Jeff, was a crash (not literally) course in cyclocross bike handling, combined with a less then adequate 15 second power, resulting in finishing one lap down. Sunday was a little better (finished on the lead lap!) for Jeff, but he admittingly has work to do. Diablo Cycling's John Bessey did something wacky. He raced an event starting with a 3 mile whitewater paddle, then a 13 mile mountain bike ride, and finishing with a 3.5 mile rugged trail run. How did he do? Great! He finished 12th (or was it 14th?) overall out of 144 participants, finishing 3rd in his category.
