His result may have been diminished, due to tire coming off the rim (aka "rolling a tubular") forcing him to use his pit bike. Brian Hansen passed Jeff Abitz midway through the race, finishing in the top 10. Jeff finished in 11th, for the third consecutive week. He has been on an "off year", but the love the bikes, courses, people and racing action!, keeps him coming back. This brought him within striking distance of the WI CX Series Overall Standings Leader. The cumulative effort of his teammates, won Diablo Cycling the Team Award. Dan Naef is on a tear! Two second place finishes in his last two races! In the final lap, Dan was close behind the leading rider, timing his (hopefully) winning attack, when his opponent slid out in front of him, causing Dan to hit the floor. The resulting gap was too much to overcome. Dan will take this confidence into the rest of the season. Jeff Abitz is showing up and racing, not winning but racing...and having a great experience each weekend. Is he past his cyclocross prime? Is the competition just better? Does he party too hard? Maybe compared to other seasons but bike racing has ebbs and flows. Brian Hansen, now fully healthy, is back and ripping again! His hard charging, from the back row start, moved him deep into the field. He is definitely on the way up. John Lichtenberg just missed the 60+ podium with 4th. So close! Part of the four race UCI C1/C2 cyclocross series in North America, this race weekend brought a fantastic experience, both as a competitor, and as spectator. Read all about in the above link. When guys travel to Wisconsin, from far away lands such as Colorado, Maryland and Washington to name a few (see the results), you know they are there to race hard. These were NOT our normal "local races". The majority of the people we are used to racing did not attend (outside of the WCA Series). Three Diablo's welcomed the challenge to grow? get humbled? get better? Something!
