If anyone had the motivation to take on the monumental task of starting up a 24 hour mountain bike race, it would be George Kapitz of Broken Spoke Bikes. George always supports the Diablo cyclocross race so of course a we had to support him. Held on the new, and improved (they built berms!) trails of the Brown Co. Reforestation Camp, the 12.1 mile course included about 8.3 miles of singletrack and 3.8 miles of fast two track and XC ski trail. Plenty of speed, and just enough rough, for an all day/night ride. This is definite "can't miss" race, or party? for next year! Tim Patterson used the 24 hour race as preparation for his upcoming Crusher events in Upper Michigan. Seeing how a 50+ category never materialized, Jeff Abitz reasoned, to "be more competitive?" opted to pull his fat bike out of offseason hibernation and muscle that thing around for almost six hours. He (me, it's ME Jeff writing this) already had the 6 Hour Fatbike win all but guaranteed, so he opted to to slow ride the final lap to avoid going out for lap 7. Even by skipping a lap, he still got third overall. Next year the mountain bike shall be raced! 24 Hour Solo (18 total) Tim Patterson - 6th (157 miles) 6 Hour Solo Fatbike (5 total) Jeff Abitz - 1st (72 miles), 3rd of 29 overall Full Results: my.raceresult.com/345577/ - Jabitz
