The 2022/23 Snow Crown Series last race concluded on the smooth and rolling golf cart paths of fancy Hilly Haven Golf Course. Racers faced the rare challenge of smooth and dry asphalt mixed with treacherous icy climbs and descents. Hundreds of prizes were given out at the post race party and raffle. Diablo Brian Hansen braved the sub 5 degree F temperatures, riding as many laps as possible for an hour on the rolling cross county, and well lit, ski trails of the Iola Winter Sports Club www.iolawintersportsclub.org/. This night, was the only time the trails were open to fat bikes. The Diablo Fat Bike Regulars, began their Saturday night party, by racing the unique "night time criterium on snow". Once a year the fast, freshly groomed 2.3 mile lap of the Brown County Reforestation Camp cross country ski trails are open to fat bikers. The Elite category racers averaged over 17 mph, with speeds in the high 20's. The few tight, slick corners slowly degraded, lap after lap, presenting the racers fresh opportunities to slip, slide, and hit the floor.
