Sunday, August 22, 2021 Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac, WI www.dutrirun.com/page/show/6455889-race-the-lake Race the Lake is back for 2021! Four Diablos raced, this always popular and prestigious, 91 mile road race around Lake Winnebago. At 5:30 am Jeff Abitz left Fond du Lac with eight others in the Fat Bike category were he, and another rider, quickly separated from the group. Working together, they maintained their margin going into Oshkosh. At 5:50 am Brian Davis, Peter Post, and Andrew Webb left with the "competitive" Wave 1. As Wave 1 passed Jeff and his opponent in Oshkosh on E. Murdock (west), Jeff made his move. As the wave 1 group turned right (north) onto Bowen St., he sprinted his fat bike up to the back of the peloton, receiving a 25+ mph, 12 mile tow going into Neenah. His opponent missed this opportunity. Riding mostly solo from there, Jeff rode out the remaining 59 miles to the Fat Bike win, with a 10 minute margin. Over an hour earlier, Brian, Peter, and Andrew finished on their skinny tired road race bikes, all with top 3 category awards! Race the Lake is a race for some, and a big ride for others. With 12 waves there is a group and pace for everyone. For many this is their first race. With a shirt, six rest stops, support vehicles, food, beverages, and substantial medals and trophies, this well volunteered race/event is highly recommended.
And now, a video by Brian Davis. Keep them coming mate! - Jabitz

In Jon's words: "My goal was to hang with the pros for as long as I could, with a stretch goal of finishing with them. A stretch that was. I lasted 30 miles with them (including a chase back with @davehaase_ultraracer after an attack popped us off). At 30 miles, I knew I wouldn’t be able to maintain that effort and still finish, so I dialed the power back and watched the pros race off. I had some dark moments in the 121 miles that remained, but I finished, and finished the best I could that day. Thanks for all your help @t2mcoach!". They put together the perfect bike for this race. How they found the parts and made it all come together is a miracle!! I’d be forced to use my mountain bike for this race, if it wasn’t for Recyclist." - Jabitz
Wisconsin mountain bike racing is coming to a close as the racers descended upon the familiar trails of the Reforestation Camp in Suamico. Where is that? They are next to the New Zoo. The 5.5 mile lap was mostly single track and contained punchy climbs, loose surfaces, and roots. As per usual the Dipiazza boys ranked high in their categories. Here is how the Diablo's did: Cat 2 (Sport) Male 13 to 14: Andrew Dipiazza - 2nd 15 to 16: Samuel Dipiazza – 6th Junior (14 & under) 7 to 8: Dominic Dipiazza - 1st 11 to 12: Vincent Dipiazza - 3rd Full Results: https://www.racetecresults.com/Results.aspx?CId=16541&RId=552 Image below purchased from: www.xtrphoto.com/ The last race in the 2021 WORS series is the Treadfest on Sunday, August 29th at the Grand Geneva Resort in, you guessed it, Lake Geneva, WI. The Ore to Shore has been a legacy mountain bike race for decades. Traversing some of the most scenic terrain in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, racers were treated with a downtown roll out, a wide yet "tunneled by trees" course, as well as lakes, rivers and ponds and historic mining areas. Race, ride, or experience, every midwestern mountain biker should add this to their "events to someday do" list. A few Diablos took the challenge below: Hard Rock (48 Mile Point-to-Point) Soft Rock (28 Mile Point-to-Point) Full results: my.raceresult.com/177267/ - Jabitz
This 8-turn, 1km course on the Karting track was fast, smooth and had a punchy climb. The proceeds from this event benefitted myTEAM TRIUMPH www.myteamtriumph-wi.org/ , an organization dedicated to eliminating the social isolation felt by individuals with disabilities through endurance athletics. Although I was unable to find the results published, Diablos Shawn Nelson and Brian Davis made a couple of podiums. Perhaps you'll gain some knowledge in Brian's video below. Diablo Brian Davis posted a video. Check it out: - Jabitz

Tim Patterson took on the highest, if not the hardest, one day mountain bike race in the United States. Only 76% made it to the finish line and Tim was one of them. The 104 mile out-and-back course, located in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, has a low elevation of 9,200 feet and reaches as high as 12,516 feet. The majority of the race is on forest trails and mountain gravel roads. Full Results: https://www.athlinks.com/event/219291/results/Event/982379/Results - Jabitz
The Waushara Area Mount Bike Association (WAMBA) gave mountain bikers the opportunity to race on the same site that hosts regional championships and multiple national Pro XCT events.
