As my finishers T-shirt reads "We're not in Kansas anymore". As a past finisher of a few 200 miles mixed terrain races, including DK200 and Michigan's "Coast to Coast", I can vouch for that claim. Diablo's Tim Patterson and Jeff Abitz accompanied Marc Salm and the Loaded group, in conquering one, if not the hardest, "one day" mixed terrain rides (races?..no rides...let's go with experiences) in the country. Was it a challenge? Well, yeah. Was it stressful? Yep. Was it scenic and fun? Absolutely. Over 32 hours and 247 miles of riding "in the middle of nowhere" left us all, lets just say, quite satisfied. I had to include many images to do this ride justice. The "225"Mile Bike: For 2020, Jeff Abitz had a goal of completing (stretch goal of buckling) the Marji Gesick marjigesick.com/ in the duathlon (ride then run) category. After investing most the year running trails he received the disappointed news that the race was postponed to 2021. However there was an opportunity to adapt and he eagerly directed his hard work to a new challenge. The Crusher FIST! This required completion of the 225, 100, and 40 mile bike events and the 50 mile run. So Jeff completed them, thus joining a group of 26 who earned themselves the hand forged FIST. See below: The "40"Mile Bike: The "100" Mile Bike: The "50" Mile Run: Although these did not feature Diablos I thought I'd tack this swell video produced by The Lumpy Rim.
