With the quickly approaching Wausau 12 hour solo wausau24.com/ on July 29th, Jeff Abitz needed to start ramping up his woods miles. After six hours of hot, thick air and varied single track terrain, he finished 3rd of 13 in the Men's Mid Solo category. See short commentary and lesson below, if interested. Full Results: www.webscorer.com/race?raceid=319573 In Jeff's words "See highlighted green where I caught the leader. See highlighted yellow were a slow speed tip over moved my shift controller enough, preventing downshifting (lever was bumping the brake lever). Like the hot, tired, dehydrated fool I was, I thought somehow my derailleur Bluetooth "disconnected". After minutes of finally finding the reset procedure on the WWW, my attempt to restore shifting was unsuccessful. So I single speeded (highest gear) a few minutes, which was almost impossible, when DUH! All I need to to do was rotate the shifter! Shifting restored, I rode as fast as I could but it wasn't enough. Lesson learned: When faced with peril, think calmly and rationally. I usually do but that day I did not. - Jabitz

Day 4 of TOAD was proof that all is normal in the world of Diablo Cycling. Adam "The Family Guy" Koenig finished well inside the top 33% of his class...proving you to can be competitive with a busy life. Jeff "What do you mean stay off the front?" Abitz still hasn't learned that you can't win a criterium leading over half the race...even if it is only 10 minutes long. Derek "May as well race with the best" Hughes finished...with the best, to include having a tire roll off the rim. Most of us wouldn't have lasted two laps with those animals. Unfortunately his resulting collarbone ended this year's TOAD campaign. Never forget: Any time you get to pin on a number is a good day. Cat 3/4 Men (63 total) Adam Koenig - 27th Fat Bike (8 or 9 total??) Jeff Abitz - 5th Cat 2 Men (11 total) Derek Hughes - 7th - Jabitz
