Andrew Webb (past finisher) - 71 miles John Bessey - 59 miles 100 Mile Duathlon (34 total) - 64 mile bike / 40 mile foot Jeff Abitz (past 2 X 100 bike, 1 X 200 finisher bike) - 5th - GREEN DOT! Buckle earned. Steven Scherck (past 100 bike finisher) - 46 miles Full results: my.raceresult.com/180178/ Following up last years Crusher EX finish, Tim Patterson was back in the UP earning his 2nd 100 bike finish. He is one the Diablo tough guys for sure. With a hard deadline to be back home by midnight, past 100 bike finisher Andrew Webb rode hard and fast from the bang of the starting bottle rockets. The realization that a sub 12 hour (buckle cut-off time) was probably not going to happen, forced him to abandon at 71 miles. John Bessey's failed (see image below) rear wheel hub took him out early at 59 miles. He is young. He'll be back. Jeff Abitz spent the last two years trading cycling power for running fitness, with one goal. Earn a buckle! Drawing upon his decades of running marathons, combined with his mountain biking experience, the Duathlon was the way he did it. Past finisher Steve Scherck has nothing to prove. He starts this race year after year and rides until he doesn't want to ride anymore. There is something noble about that. - Jabitz

Talk about variety. The Red Granite Grinder had it all. Pavement, a long climb up Rib Mountain, a 1+ mile hike a bike down a rocky trail, lots of gravel, single track, double track, a river crossing, and lots hills. For details see: www.ironbull.org/red-granite-grinder-details Dan Naef, Diablo Cycling's latest addition, added to his impressive palmares, with an age category win! Jeff Abitz opted to use his clip-on aero bars, which made for fast, efficient solo riding (although working in the smaller groups probably would have resulted in a shorter time). Adam Koenig further proved his grit and determination, finishing in the dark and smiling. World Cup cyclocross racing is like the Formula 1 of motorsports. Three flyovers, unforgiving metal fencing (no tape stretching here), and a festival atmosphere, is a rare opportunity not to be missed. A few Diablos made the short drive down to Waterloo to race on the same course as the best cyclocross racers on the planet. October 3, 2021 Presented by Wheel & Sprocket and benefits the WI Veteran's Chamber Association Rock Sports Complex/Rock Snowpark in Franklin, WI wicxseries.com/event/hill-bill/ WI CX Series Schedule: wicxseries.com/schedule/ This hill struck fear into me when I raced my mountain bike here in the 90's. Hill Bill is Franklin’s first cyclocross race at The Rock Sports Complex/Rock Snowpark. Lots of run-ups, ridges, sketchy descents and off-cambers made this a brutally tough race. Diablos Brent Rohrs made the "wide angle podium" and Adam Koenig ignored the suffering by completing two races.
