Marquette, Michigan http://marjigesick100.com/ 100 mile ultra mountain bike race featuring 90% singletrack and 12,000 feet of elevation. "This race is absolutely ridiculous" "likely the hardest single day mountain bike race in the U.S." - Race winner Jeremiah Bishop on facebook live 107 finishers out 340 (31%)! http://my5.raceresult.com/82699/results?lang=en As I was thinking about what to write, Jon Lester summed it up nicely in a facebook post. “We had quite a few Diablos line up for the Marji Gesick 100 Saturday. It was absolutely brutal. A very tough course in record heat and humidity, phew! Honestly, my 330 mile day across West Kansas was "easier". We also had three juniors take on the 100 and Corbin finished it!! (unofficial Diablo who rode with Nick and William. All great kids!!!) Here are the contenders: Jason Gibson. Two time finisher!!! 41st (two flat tires) Jeff Abitz. Finished 35th like a rockstar! Schaff Drive. Finished 55th with Mark Desjardin and Sean Bee!! Corbin Hodgeman. Suited up as a Diablo. Finished!! I think the youngest Marji100 Finisher ever??!! (16yo) - confirmed. He was - JA Scott Niemi Scott Barclay Nick Niemi William Frank Todd Mertz Tim Patterson(on tired tour divide legs!!!) Jon Lester. DNF Special thanks to the following: - Recyclist Bicycle Company for their advice, ace mechanics, bikes parts, and gear - Pete Frank, Rhonda and Ed Kolka, and BIKE TEAM, who offered fantastic finish line support. - Todd Poquette and Danny Hill for this "Fantastic" event . Thanks for the painful, yet fun memories.” As I sit here doing this blog, still too sore (don’t ask where) to ride, I ponder if I will ever attempt (yes attempt, not necessarily do) this race again. It was the Nuge that once quoted: "You're born at point A, you die at point B. Kick maximum ass in between". I already have next years registration date of Friday, October 13th, "post-it noted" on my screen. Decision made. - Jabitz out.
