Jon Lester won the overall! - Jabitz
Whether taking it casual or serious, all had a great time racing the Washburn Trail system of over eight miles of single track, bridges, rock gardens, and fast flow trails up there in northern Wisconsin. Jon Lester got, in his words, SMOKED by a past NICA athlete he once had. He was a proud coach. Long Course: Male 40 to 49 Jon Lester - 1st (2nd overall) Full Results: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://rastatrails.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2022RallyAgeGroup.pdf - Jabitz

Diablo Cycling's road race elite traveled across the state to compete in the very popular La Crosse Omnium. This premier midwest spring classic called upon a diverse "three-event" mastery of bike racing skills. One, two, or all three events were entered as points scored in each accumulated toward the Omnium Championship. Strong competition, generous $7,500 in total cash payouts and spectacular scenery made this a "must do" event. Proceeds benefitted the area's ORA trails. ![]() May 7, 2022 Laona WI thebear100.com/ Laona Rescue Squad Fundraiser Presenting Sponsor: Broken Spoke Bike Studio There are not a lot of gravel races in Wisconsin. Milk trucks needs pavement. Fortunately Bret Schmaling and Broken Spoke Bike Studio bring, what I would consider, one of the premier bicycle races in Wisconsin...regardless of discipline. Gravel racers, gravel curious, and gravel addicts flocked to the the varied unpaved paths and roads of the Nicolet National Forest. Although most who rode were, just riding, this thing is becoming competitive. Those who partook could choose 31, 71 or 102 mile distances. Bear 100 rookie Adam Koenig had a hel...heck of a race finishing well inside the top third. Now that he knows the lay of the land look out next year! Past winner Dan Naef did it again! His race stayed together until around mile 80 when when he and two others got away. Fury unleashed, Dan won the sprint for the win! Diablo Cycling Results: 102 Mile (128 total): Dan Naef - 1st place overall (Division? Who cares? He won the OVERALL! He was over 40 by the way) Adam Koenig - 30th overall, 8/31 in Male 30-30 Full Results: results.performancetiming.com/Results.aspx?CId=16541&RId=611&fbclid=IwAR3N8fFywYye9O3o_mr2rOqNqbxizgqBD5jOTlhIAS6BIlrvnPJ9VKWye1E - Jabitz...Oh, where was I? Mr. Hernia came for a visit, so, I need to take care of that. No worries.
Diablo Cycling welcomes new team member Derek Hughes. Judging by his results, Derek knows what he's doing. Nice! Criterium Men Pro Cat 1/2/3 Derek Hughes - 8th Road Race Men Masters 40+/50+ Derek Hughes - 1st - Jabitz

Mile Run (walk, hike, crawl, whatever) - July 1, 2021 Ishpeming MI to Ishpeming MI Last years 2020 FIST earner (40, 100, 225EX Bike & 40 mile run) Jeff Abitz returned for the double! His love for the Upper Peninsula and his need to train for his upcoming Marji Gesick marjigesick.com/ Duathlon provided the incentive. Of course his sidekick Paul provided reliable support all day and all night. Missed turns and hard to find checkpoints (Do not be the first to attempt the route on day 1) increased his mileage to about 70 and had him desperately chasing to beat the 24 hour deadline. Crossing the finish in 23:44 was cutting close, but a finish is a finish. Jeff was 8th of 10 finishers. Did the course go through there? Yes it did! Crusher EX - August 7, 2021 Ishpeming MI to Ishpeming MI 267 miles with 13, 983' of climbing The next Crusher event was the "Big Boy". Jeff Abitz and Adam Koenig set out to conquer a course that, frankly, makes most gravel "racing" routes look like pedestrian paths. One missed checkpoint forced us to turn around and add about 20 miles of extra credit. 148 miles later they arrived in the town of L'Anse where Adam accepted, in his words, his first experience of being "Crushed". Adam climbed into the support van while Jeff continued on into the dark unknown. Well into the next day, Jeff arrived at the finish in a time of 33:00:13. He was 26th of 36 finishers. Job done. Next... ![]() Your 38 mm tires are not welcome here. "Mosquito Gulch" has reached legendary status in the UP. "Mulligan Plains" always delivers a welcome respite. The "Huron River Crossing" is always a crapshoot. Sometimes the water is low, sometimes it is chest deep. Here it is just right. Finished after 267 miles and 33 hours. No time for a nap. Time to clean up and head to Black Rocks Brewery! Crusher 40 - August 14, 2021 Ishpeming MI to Ishpeming MI 59 miles with 3,386' of climbing Next up was the "fun ride". This one Jeff had a goal of setting the fastest time (not that anyone is really racing). He completed the course in time for lunch with a time of 4:38:17. 1st of 38 finishers Crusher 100 - August 19, 2021 127 miles with 5,728' of climbing This was the perfect mix of distance and features for Jeff to wrap up his FIST experience. 5th out of 105 finishers in 11:54:09 Jeff Abitz was one of three who earned the FIST. His fasted combined time put him in 1st (but whose racing?) - Jabitz
