The lure of Michigan's Upper Peninsula continues to draw many Diablos. The 25th Annual Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic could be considered a "Midwest Monument", combining amateurs and professionals in a downtown mass start. After the roll out, racers were treated with a course that allowed ample passing, lakes, rivers, ponds and enough single track (mostly towards the end) to challenge all facets of mountain biking XC racing. Hard Rock (48 mile) course description: www.oretoshore.com/about-me-shift#contactus Just like last year, the prior day's rain made the course slick, muddy, and puddly. Especially notable performance by Brian Hansen with a 1st place in his category. It was a big day for the eight Diablos that partook in the 15th year of the 89 mile race around Lake Winnebago. The "Two Andrews", Peter, Dan and Joe bested 12 other teams for the prestigious Team Award. Dan Naef was in the money with a 3rd overall. Jeff's ability to hang with the skinny tired Wave 1 racers for about 35 miles helped enable him to finish with a win and a 21.6 mph average in the funky Fat Bike category. 16 year old Evan finished his first "RTL" in the top 15%. "More than Miles, an experience for everyone" is the popular quote of this weekend event. Sure, the racers are getting their competitive fix, but their families and support crews are also partaking in the live music, beers, and multiple locations to party and cheer. Back for another year was the much appreciated "Bessy Entourage" who offered full support to Diablo Cycling. Four Diablos made the 12 hour podiums this year and a newer Diablo shattered his usual one hour Sport races by entering his first 6 hour endurance challenge. August 5, 2023 New Glarus, WI Presented by the Brazen Dropouts Cycling Team www.brazendropouts.org/ www.brazendropouts.org/road-race For race details see: www.brazendropouts.org/road-race After their recent podium results at the WI State Criterium weeks prior, it was time for Diablo Cycling's "Triple Threat" to report for duty at the WI State ROAD Championships. Again their teamwork paid off. Andy Webb and Jon Lester (Gryphon Velo) attacked from the start. This broke up, and wore down the field. Dan Naef, forced to cover an attacking Donkey Label guy, found himself catching Andy and Jon during the middle of, the last of four, laps. Pulling ahead on the final climbs earned Dan Naef the title of 2023 WI State Road Race Champion! Job done, Andy Webb and Brian Davis rolled in with satisfaction. Diablo Cycling Results: Men Master 35+ Cat 2/3 (20 total) Dan Naef - 1st Andrew Webb - 6th Brian Davis - 13th Full Results: legacy.usacycling.org/results/?permit=2023-10683 The course consisted of four 13.5 mile long laps and a total of 3,816' of climbing. - Jabitz

Diablo Cycling's Dan Naef and John Lichtenberg raced Indiana's premier gravel century. This sold out (800) event includes distances of 100, 80, or 44 miles. It had all the gravely things...old bridges, woods, creeks, and farm fields. For further description, see the You Tubes below, and link above. Dan returned, finding himself again on the podium. In his words: "100% would recommend checking this event out! Racing with (former professional basketball player) Reggie Miller was a sweet bonus!". John's big miles this year, has allowed him to expand his racing disciplines to now include long gravel events. 45 minute cyclocross to five hour gravel is a big deal.
