December 11 thru 16, 2018 legacy.usacycling.org/2018/cx-nationals If you ever get the opportunity to race in a Nationals cycling event, do it! With this year's Cyclocross Nationals less than an 8 hour drive away, three Diablo's jumped at the chance to race amonst the best in the United States. John and Jeff had to contend with slick and muddy course conditions but nothing like the 7" deep muck that Ethan Janssen perservered thru. With the exception of (some) injuries and catastrophic equipment failure, cyclocrosser's never DNF due to deteriorating course conditions. In fact, we like it. All three Diablo's pushed on, as they watched several of their competitors switch to clean pit bikes lap after lap (I missed you Jed - JA). Congratulations on representing Diablo Cycling and our sponsors! Men Junior 17-18 Cat 1,2,3 (67 starters): Ethan Janssen - 49th Mens Masters 50-54 Cat 1,2,3 (111 starters): Jeff Abitz – 57th (finished on lead lap) Masters 55-59 Category 1,2,3 (77 starters): John Lichtenberg – 48th Results: legacy.usacycling.org/results/index.php?year=2018&id=2986 - Jabitz
www.l5racingteam.org The talent was deep! The best cyclocross racers in the midwest (including "hot shots" from Minneapolis and Chicago), traveled from the surrounding states, to race at least one more time this season. After a month of muddy racing, riders had to quickly "switch gears" (good one Jabitz) and adapt to a frozen (hard), slippery, and very sketchy course. Jeff Abitz continually tested the limits of his tubular tyre's "edge grip" as he countinually slipped and drifted on the off cambers, and slick, sweeping turns. The efforts seemed to be "full gas" or gentle finesse. Such is the sport of cyclocross we love. Let's give credit to the following Diablo Cycling members STILL getting it done in middle of December!: Men’s Junior 15-18: Ethan Janssen Elite Cat 3: Ethan Janssen Masters 45 Cat 1,2,3: Jeff Abitz – 7th of 20 Masters 55 Cat 1,2,3: John Lichtenberg legacy.usacycling.org/results/?permit=2018-3141 - Jabitz
Hosted by: Revolution Cycles Cycling Club revcyclesclub.com December 1, 2018 Trek HQ in Waterloo, WI A 100% chance of rain, high winds and a rapidly deteriorating course did not deter five Diablos from making the rainy drive south, to race the Wisconsin State Cyclocross Championships. In fact, cyclocrossers like it. Mud, crazy slick off cambers, a steep flyover (it felt like hitting a wall), a punchy climb (pedal or run?), about five dismounts (per lap), and plenty of enthusiastic heckling met the needs of this unique breed of racer. Diablo Cycling Team participation (top 5 finishes noted): Elite Cat 3: Ethan Janssen Masters 35 Cat 3: Brian Davis Michael Sullivan Masters 45 Cat 1,2,3: Jeff Abitz – 4th Masters 55 Cat 1,2,3: John Lichtenberg Check out Brian's video at: Next weekend is the Midwest Cyclocross Championships in Sun Prairie.
