 Sunday, August 22, 2021 Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac, WI www.dutrirun.com/page/show/6455889-race-the-lake Race the Lake is back for 2021! Four Diablos raced, this always popular and prestigious, 91 mile road race around Lake Winnebago. At 5:30 am Jeff Abitz left Fond du Lac with eight others in the Fat Bike category were he, and another rider, quickly separated from the group. Working together, they maintained their margin going into Oshkosh. At 5:50 am Brian Davis, Peter Post, and Andrew Webb left with the "competitive" Wave 1. As Wave 1 passed Jeff and his opponent in Oshkosh on E. Murdock (west), Jeff made his move. As the wave 1 group turned right (north) onto Bowen St., he sprinted his fat bike up to the back of the peloton, receiving a 25+ mph, 12 mile tow going into Neenah. His opponent missed this opportunity. Riding mostly solo from there, Jeff rode out the remaining 59 miles to the Fat Bike win, with a 10 minute margin. Over an hour earlier, Brian, Peter, and Andrew finished on their skinny tired road race bikes, all with top 3 category awards! Race the Lake is a race for some, and a big ride for others. With 12 waves there is a group and pace for everyone. For many this is their first race. With a shirt, six rest stops, support vehicles, food, beverages, and substantial medals and trophies, this well volunteered race/event is highly recommended.
